research
For my final major project I will be doing a short war film, I myself will be writing, directing and starring in the film. The film is about a US army solider who has escaped a prison camp and comes across a afghan solider. In order to film this project I need to research into war films that relate the most to my idea.
War films are often categorized by their milieu according to the website Wikipedia, for example my short war film wont be an anti-war film because its showing the good in people in war. My short war film will fall under the action category because its a film about war and a US army solider on the run from a prison camp who comes across an enemy, so there will be conflict in the film to.
A movie scene I can really analyse is from David hayer's film fury, which is about a group of soldiers bond with each other who drive and run a tank together. The clip below shows Norman who's one of the soldiers in the tank be spotted by one of the German soldiers after all his crew has died, but instead of alerting the other soldiers he lets him live and pretends he doesn't see him. This is very similar to what I am going to do for my project.
The setting of the film is mainly done inside a tank called fury and is set in the second world war. In the second world war Germany had much better tanks than America so the movie really portrays the courage this group had, because they had the ability to take on three German tanks with just one American tank, but that's not the only courageous thing they did... when there tank suddenly breaks down in the middle of a road which is suddenly being stormed by a large army of 200 German soldiers, they decide to stay with the tank and try to take on the large army with the limited resource's they have, which brings me to the props they use, in the film they use a large amount of props from guns, world war 2 costumes, hand grenades, cigarettes, chains etc, which has given me a lot of idea's for the props I am going to use for my short war film. There are many types of mise en scene used in this particular scene, I noticed that they needed to be very dirty since they have just been in a battle and there would be dirt blowing into there faces from the grenades the Germans used, so they would have to use make up to make them look dirty during the scene. The lighting is very dark which I think is to show more of the fear of especially battling in the dark because you can barley see anything, but what they have done to light up the scene is use fire from the battle which is really clever and it reflects into the tank so you can see them both talking before he drops out to the bottom in order to escape.

The movie Lone survivor is actually based on true events, which tells the true events of Marcus Luttrel who lived to tell the tale. In this movie scene Mark has came across a random afghan who isn't a terrorist, but Mark does not know that so he continues to threaten him to go away not knowing that he wants to help him because its in his religion. Throughout the scene you can see the discomfort Mark is in because all his friends have just been killed and you can see the make up used to make it look like he's bleeding so the audience is can see physically what he's been through as well as mentally, you can see from the close up shots that peter Berg the director wants you to see his emotions and discomfort.
When Mark realises they might be helping despite his fear of being killed he decides to go with the afghan civilian, during the scene we see a lot of props similar to the ones used in the movie fury, he persistently threatens to blow everyone up with a grenade(a prop), there's also the costumes which are very similar to what I'm going to get for my short film. The overall contrast and lighting is very different to the movie fury in which the lighting is very basic in Lone survivor, they don't need to use fire for lighting because its set in the day in Lone survivor, the contrast is also much brighter than fury, it doesn't fade any colours it just shows it how it is, whereas in fury you can see where they have lowered the contrast of the colours to get that dark effect for the green and blue colours so they stand out more and it shows that fear emotion more.

Mise-en-scene

Facial expressions and body language- This provide a clear indicator of how someone is feeling.
Positioning of characters and objects- If the filmmaker chooses to position a character or an object in the foreground of the shot we know that. we as an audience, should attach importance to this character or object.Market Research /Audience Profile
From my unit 10 project I was able to research into qualitative and quantitative data and define what they were.
Qualitative data is non-statistical and is typically unstructured or semi-structured in nature. This data isn't necessarily measured using hard numbers used to measure graphs and charts but instead it is categorized based on properties, attributes, labels and other identifiers for example a wooden table would be that its made of wood, its smooth, it smells like oak. This can all be generated through texts, documents, video/audio recordings, images, observations and notes.
Quantitative data is statistical and is typically measured using numbers and values which makes it more suitable for data analysis, this can be generated through surveys, tests and market reports.
From my unit 10 research I was able to define the meaning of Anchorage and mediation.
Anchorage and mediation
Anchorage is very important of portraying the meaning of media text, without it the audience could interpret a text in any way they choose, media products can anchor a TV program or video game by using certain camera angles to give us a particular perception of what the producer wants us to see, this is what I will be doing in my quiz show, Ill only be showing certain shots of the studio to make it look like a game show. I will be using lighting to bright up the studio like other quiz shows do and I will also be using certain props like a clipboard to hold the questions or maybe cards.

Interviews
1. I have looked into many different war films that will be more familiar to my idea such as fury and lone survivor, these two movies have a certain scene that will be very similar to my idea. From these movies I will be able to see what types of mise en scene they use so I can have more ideas of what to use for different colour coordination, props, costumes, lighting and make up. I will be conducting interviews and surveys for my primary research to get a good understanding of my target audience.
2. I have conducted a lot of secondary research which I have undertook to further develop my idea by researching into the things I mentioned above. I will
